Ramadan

  • The new moon is born at 3am on 7 February 2027 Sydney time [1] (16.00 UT, 6 February 2027).
  • The moon will be sightable when it is about 18 hours old.
  • The first major city to sight the moon of Ramadan will be Eucla, Western Australia at approximately 6.15pm[2] on 7 February 2027 (10.15 UT, 7 February 2027).
  • The time in Sydney at the sighting of the new moon will be 9.15pm on 7 February 2027[3]. The moon will also be sighted in Perth at sunset.
  • Assuming the moon is sighted, Ramadan should commence on 8 February 2027.
 

Shawal

  • The new moon is born at 8.30pm on 8 March 2027 Sydney time (9.30 UT 8 March 2027).
  • The moon will be sightable when it is about 18 hours old.
  • The first city to sight the moon of Shawal is Anchorage, Alaska at sunset at approximately 5.40pm on 9 March 2027 (3.40 UT 9 March 2027)
  • The time in Sydney at the sighting of the new moon will be 2.40pm on 9 March 2027[4].
  • Assuming the moon is sighted, Shawal should commence on 10 March 2027.
